Erich Berg
Erich Berg’s path to winemaking began in Chicago’s vibrant fine-dining world, before relocating to Oregon in 2004 to pursue his passion. His first harvest at Domaine Serene refined his foundational skills. After three years, a hip injury and reconstructive surgery diverted him to academia, earning a master’s degree and teaching high school English for six years. Yet winemaking continued to call.
A friendship with Brad Ford of Illahe Vineyards led to a role as Associate Winemaker, where Erich embraced low‑intervention, terroir-driven practices. He later worked at Day Wines, pioneers in Oregon’s Natural Wine movement.
In 2018, Erich launched Ricochet Wine Company, initially crafting just two tons of Pinot Noir and Grüner Veltliner for friends and family. Encouraged by enthusiastic restaurant supporters, he formally labeled and released the wines—and Ricochet was born.
Ricochet Wine Company has grown significantly, now producing over 3,000 cases of a diverse portfolio—Pinot Noir, Gamay Noir, Tempranillo, Pinot Blanc, Grüner Veltliner, and a sparkling Pet-Nat—while maintaining its artisanal ethos. In July 2024, Erich acquired an old manufacturing space in downtown‐adjacent McMinnville, quickly transforming it into a functioning winery. There he also founded Ricochet, Et Al, a collaborative production hub and wine bar hosting eight tenant wineries under one roof—grounded in the belief that wine is community Looking forward, Erich envisions this space as a gathering place for locals, club members, aspiring winemakers, and even a supportive employment stepping-stone for those in need.
Ricochet donates 5% of quarterly sales to various local and regional charities that help our neighbors-in-need “bounce back,” or ricochet, to a life of dignity, security, and empowerment.
